CLIENT: Department of Water Resources of the Nation - Faculty of Engineering of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA).
YEAR: 2007 - 2010
SUMMARY:
The extended basin of this river system represents approximately 270,000 km2 or about 22% of Argentina. This implies the extension of five full provinces (Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Black River, Neuquén, Mendoza) and four partially provinces (San Juan, San Luis, Catamarca, La Rioja).
The project makes a comprehensive evaluation of the performance of the whole system, the collection of meaningful information in terms of quantity and quality of water, other water uses and impacts of alternative management measures.
In addition to the number of jurisdictions involved include the territory includes several cities of significant population, a number of oases and irrigated areas, several works of large-scale infrastructure (such as check dams and power generation systems or channels) natural systems such as lakes and large wetland areas and biodiversity.
RESULTS: The project concludes with a set of basic findings to achieve integrated water resources throughout the system unagestión. The main results of the project include a simulation model and generating current and future scenarios of supply and demand of water uses in the area; proposed management organization; needs suggestions for measuring and monitoring natural and climatic variables to improve the conditions for resource management versus normal and extreme conditions.
